“BE TRUE TO WHO YOU ARE, NOT TO WHAT’S ON TREND”
— ARTIKA SULAIMAN

"Soft summer breezes, distant sounds of crashing waves, the jungle, the ocean, the rare yet magical song of the little Bali Myna that fills the air; The conjuring of evocative images fill your mind. Swirling and dancing like a melting pot of liquid gold."

As we move through time and seasons pass, so do styles and wedding trends. With an air of excitement we had the opportunity to speak exclusively to the exceptionally talented and successful, Artika Sulaiman, of the newly rebranded, Artika Events & Celebrations on her latest styling forecast in a two-part series for the coming season.

Working with a palette of Black, Gold & Ivory, Artika Designed this gorgeous yet bold concept, drawing heavily on inspiration from an era gone by. With heavy statement palette, with an eye for architectural design and love of texture, Artika nailed the perfect balance between femininity and masculinity in her design, working with the inspirational musings of the 1920's when the hollywood silver screen reigned supreme.

Taking centre stage; The arch... Carefully created from hand painted local bamboo which was then manipulated to recreate a towering 8 foot tall art deco inspired backdrop installed by the amazing team at Gloriosa Flower House. Not to be upstaged, almost 60 beautifully hand painted gold palm fronds added an element of the tropics while a pop of art deco on the deck was framed beautifully by 'Bali Event Hire's "Black Bentwood" chairs. (BEH updated take on the classic No.18 chair, by Thronet).

The warm flicker of ivory pillar candles marked the beginning of the virgin aisle inside geometric art-deco inspired floor lanterns all the while an abundance of gold votives sat beautifully with their rich glow between running free-form clusters of ivory roses and local greenery.

“STYLE IS SAYING WHO YOU ARE WITHOUT HAVING TO SPEAK”
— RACHAEL ZOE

"As the amber glowing skies slowly begin to slip into a paler shade of blue before nightfall, the perfectly laid table scape comes to life. With the alluring collection of fruits and florals entwined with rich tones of marsala and deep plum, a soft touch of blush and ivory all overflowing from the beautiful antique gold vessels placed amongst a collection of hauntingly beautiful black taper candles flickering in the faint afterglow."

An elegant canopy suspended above the raw wood 6 seater dining table from Bali Event Hire, was crafted out of of close to 80 hand strung crystal teardrops to catch the last of the suns rays and to dance in the breeze, creating a sense of rain drops that have been elegantly frozen in time.

A collection of florals by Gloriosa Flower House, beautifully prepared in warm muted shades of blush, ivory and white; marry perfectly with the rich berry, wine and marsala tones from the local mangosteen, rambutan & grapes scattered throughout table. Artika wanted to create a setting that emulated something beautiful and mysterious and she was compelled to draw in subtle elements of Bali with this concept to show how subtlety in the finer details of design can enhance the overall look greatly when styling your table scape.

Gold beaded charger plates were nestled upon a set of beautifully hand-woven Kim Soo rattan placemats with crisp white napery and small hand painted gold animals to draw back that little hint of Bali. Long black taper candles were added to give an air of mystery and class to the setting. As flames flicker in the breeze, the light playing hide and seek beautifully, softly dashing across the vintage crystal glass wear.

Overall a perfect trend for the coming season with plenty of rich deep colour palettes, bold metallic statement pieces and plenty of texture,
free-form floral and the key is little details to really make your mark on your styling.
